Poetry became records. Records became a life.
Poetic Killa started writing from lived experience — first poetry and short stories, then songs. By 2009 the writing had become a full commitment: the mic, the studio, and learning the business behind both.
Raised in the Boston area and influenced by emcees including Guru and Black Thought, he developed as a recording artist, producer and songwriter. His path moved from independent mixtapes to major collaborations, East Coast stages and a body of work centered on survival, growth and truth.
After connecting with Kool G Rap during a New York studio session, Poetic recorded “No Competition” and released The Fix Vol. 1, featuring Kuniva, Raekwon, JoJo Pellegrino, Iron Solomon and others.
The Fix Vol. 2 arrived with appearances from Young Buck, Raekwon, Slaine, Jadakiss and Bizarre, alongside performances across the Northeast.
Hosted by Jack Thriller, The Renaissance Project went Gold on DatPiff — the mixtape platform — after more than 25,000 downloads and streams, with appearances from Sean Price, Nitty Scott MC and Chubby Jag.
The years from 2015 to 2018 brought turbulence and a hard education in the music industry and its business side. After the death of his grandfather in August 2017, he found his way back to music. During that stretch he worked heavily as a columnist writer for ThisIs50.com, working directly with 50 Cent on his creative vision for the site and directly with Jack Thriller, while traveling back and forth between New York and Boston, covering upcoming talent from around the globe — introducing rising artists to the world, including A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Dej Loaf.
Poetic Killa shared the bill with Method Man & Redman at The Webster in Hartford — at the time, the biggest show of his career.
Been Around The Block passed 500,000 streams and downloads. Standing on its own, the single “Fuck Up A Check” became his top track — the artist and the person in the same frame, on his own terms.
His festival debut came in Austin, Texas, performing at the showcase at Flamingo Cantina during SXSW week.
Six dates from Milan to Rome, with Milan and Pescara selling out, bringing the catalog to an international audience.
